By 2010, the combined efforts of PlayPumps International and its partners will bring the benefits of clean drinking water to up to 10 million people through the installation of 4,000 PlayPump® water systems in schools and communities in 10 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
To date, PlayPumps International has successfully donated more than 1200 PlayPump systems in South Africa, Lesotho, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Zambia providing the benefits of clean drinking water to millions. Expansion over the next few years will bring PlayPump systems to Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Tanzania, and Uganda.
In addition to providing access to drinking water, other benefits to the community will be:
- Exposure to positive social messages such as HIV/AIDS prevention and hygiene education;
- Improved hygiene and sanitation in schools; and,
- Valued play equipment.
